FAQ
Questions,
answered honestly.
What studios and artists ask before their first upload, all in one place.
Getting started
Do my clients need an account?
Share links open without an account. Clients can listen, leave timestamped comments and download when you allow it. Final approval is available on Studio and above. An account is needed for the persistent client portal.
Is there a free studio trial?
Yes. New and existing free studios can choose Studio, Pro or Veteran for a 30-day trial with a card. Your chosen plan bills automatically when the trial ends. Cancel before it ends to avoid the subscription charge. One trial per studio account; invoice processing fees still apply. Enterprise is available for larger teams.
Do I need a credit card to start?
Yes. A card is required for studio trials. Your chosen monthly or annual plan bills automatically after 30 days unless you cancel. Free artist accounts do not require a card.
How do I move clients off Dropbox onto Levels Flow?
Upload your audio, then share a listening link with your client. For an ongoing relationship, invite them to their portal so they can find the projects and versions you deliver in one place.
Can I cancel my Dropbox or Drive plan?
Studio includes 500 GB, Pro 1 TB and Veteran 2 TB. Pro and Veteran add $5 per 100 GB beyond that; Enterprise has a custom allocation. Audio lives here; clients open share links to listen and download.
Plans and billing
What does the free trial cover?
The plan subscription is free for 30 days. Invoice fees still apply: 2.5% on Studio, 1% on Pro and no Levels Flow invoice fee on Veteran. Stripe processing fees are separate and come out of the studio’s payout; your client pays the quoted invoice total.
Do you surcharge my clients on card payments?
No. Your client pays the invoice total you quoted — nothing added. Stripe's processing fee comes out of your payout, not the client's bill.
Can I switch plans anytime?
Change plans in Settings. Paid plan changes use Stripe proration; a smaller plan must fit your stored files. Cancelling keeps access through the current trial or paid period, then studio access pauses until you subscribe again.
Is annual billing cheaper?
Yes — annual plans pay for ten months instead of twelve. Two months free, billed up front.
What happens if I go over storage?
Pro and Veteran auto-bill $5 per 100 GB above the included cap, so you don't get blocked. Studio is a hard cap — you'll see an upgrade prompt before uploads fail.
What happens to my clients' files if I downgrade?
Cancelling does not delete your files. Access continues through your trial or paid period, then studio access pauses until you subscribe again. Billing and account controls remain available. A smaller paid plan must fit your stored files.
Getting paid and locked files
How do I get paid by clients?
Payments run through Stripe. You connect a Stripe account once, send branded invoices or quotes from Levels Flow, and payouts land in your bank on Stripe's normal schedule.
Can I lock the audio until the client pays?
Yes. Attach an invoice to the versions you want to protect. Those versions stay locked until the invoice is paid. Successful Stripe payment updates the invoice automatically. For a bank transfer, mark the invoice paid after you receive the funds.
Can clients hear the full master before paying?
Not when that version is gated by an unpaid invoice. A short preview can be shown on the locked share page when a preview clip is available; it does not expose the full gated file.
Can I protect a whole project?
You can apply invoice gating at song or project level for studio uploads, or gate selected versions. Check the invoice and versions you are attaching before sharing.
Is payment gating included during the trial?
Yes. Payment gating is included on every studio plan, including during the trial. Platform invoice fees and Stripe processing fees still apply.
Does a portal unlock unpaid versions?
No. A version gated by an unpaid invoice remains locked. Portal access does not bypass payment gating.
Does password protection replace payment gating?
No. A password controls who opens a share link. Invoice gating controls access to the full versions attached to an unpaid invoice.
Can invoices use my branding?
Yes. Your studio identity and business details appear on invoices, with your chosen currency.
How does my accountant see the books?
Save your accountant's email, share the generated token URL once, and they open /accountant-view in their browser — every invoice, quote, and receipt, read-only. No account, no extra subscription, revocable any time.
Audio and files
What audio formats do you support?
WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, M4A, and OGG for mixes; ZIP for stems packages. Loudness analysis runs on every uploaded mix.
Where is my audio stored?
Audio is stored in private cloud storage, with access controlled by your studio, collaborators and sharing settings. Playback and downloads use time-limited signed URLs. You can manage and disable share links from the song or project.
Can clients listen to a Dolby Atmos mix?
Yes, with one honest caveat: no web browser renders Atmos itself. Upload the ADM master with the binaural render and the Atmos MP4, and clients hear the binaural headphone mix anywhere. In Safari on a Mac, iPhone or iPad with AirPods or spatial-capable speakers, a Spatial toggle plays the real Atmos file. The ADM master is download-only. Atmos uploads are available on Studio and above.
Does Levels Flow master my audio automatically?
These tools support review, measurement and delivery. Measurements and target guidance do not replace your mastering decisions.
Are readings always available?
Readings depend on analysis being available for the uploaded version. Older or unanalysed files may not have every measurement.
Does level matching change the download?
No. Level matching adjusts playback for comparison; it does not change the original uploaded file.
Catalog and teams
Do you capture release metadata like ISRC?
Yes — per-song fields capture ISRC, ISWC, BPM, key, genre, mood tags, recording and release dates, and sync flags. All optional; most studios fill in only what their distributor or sync agency asks for.
Does adding an ISRC register the recording?
No. These fields store release information; entering a code does not register the recording with an external organisation.
Should everyone use the same login?
No. Invite each person to the project they work on, so access stays tied to that person.
Can I receive work from another studio?
Yes. Work sent to you as a client can appear in My Library, while the collaborations hub covers projects you have been invited to work on.
For artists
Is it really free for artists?
A free artist account lets you listen to, download, comment on and approve music shared by your studios. Paid plans add your own uploads, drop links and protection for delivered files.
What does protection for delivered files mean?
On a paid artist plan, delivered songs receive file-retention protection after 72 hours. If the studio later deletes a protected song, project or account, the files and comments move into your projects. This is file storage and access, not a transfer of music rights. Delivered files count towards your storage once protected. If you return to Free, songs still held by a studio return to that studio’s storage and paid-plan protection ends.
My studio isn't on Levels Flow. Can they still send me files?
Yes. On a paid plan you create a drop link and send it to them. They upload without an account, up to 20 GB per file, so a full stems zip fits. What they send waits for you: approve it and it's added to your projects, in a project named after them, decline it and it's deleted. Nothing uses your storage until you approve it.
How much can I store?
Artist holds 100 GB, Artist Pro 500 GB and Artist Max 1 TB, with no limit on how many songs. Songs your studios deliver count towards your storage once they're yours.
What audio files can I store?
Masters, mixes, demos and stems. Levels Flow takes WAV, MP3, FLAC, AIF, AIFF, M4A and other audio formats, plus zip files for stems, and keeps the original file you or your studio uploaded for download.
Does my studio have to pay or sign up?
No. A studio already on Levels Flow delivers to you as part of how it works. A studio that isn't can use your drop link: they open it and upload, with no account and nothing to pay.
How much does Levels Flow cost for artists?
Receiving music from your studios is free. Paid artist plans start at $5 a month (Artist), then $12 (Artist Pro) and $25 (Artist Max), with two months free when you pay yearly.
What happens if I cancel?
Nothing is deleted. Your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for, then your account moves to Free: your projects stay, new uploads pause, and songs your studios delivered go back to being stored by the studio. Upgrade again any time and everything picks up where it left off.
